Team Imperador - It's not the car, it's the team!

Emperor Team builds competition off-road vehicles and has been representing UTFPR – Campus Curitiba in SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) competitions since 2008. It is divided into seven subsystems, namely, Structure and Design, Transmission, Brake , Suspension and Steering, Electronics, Marketing and Administrative. Each subsystem plays a key role in the team's functioning, whether it's designing and manufacturing components, raising funds, finding sponsors, or publicizing the work done.

The main objective of this extension project is to provide its members with the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge about different areas, such as engineering, administration and marketing, and also to provide industrial business experience. Diego Mainardes, former Captain of the Imperador Team, answered the following when questioned about the importance of baja for academic training: “In baja you reach all levels of learning, because the study is not aimed at getting a good grade, but to improve something in the project. So if you have an idea, you will research it, mature your thinking and explain it to the other members, this helps a lot in training”.

In this way, people who choose to join the team end up having a much richer education and become professionals who are much better prepared for the job market. Diego also claims that baja helps a lot to develop interpersonal skills, as teamwork is fundamental for the project to work. “It's really incredible to see the team growing, today our level of organization is much higher than in the past, and it's getting better every day. The coolest thing about the team's growth is the members' growth”, replied Diego about the team's growth.

When asked about what the project represents to him, the former Captain stated “The team means a lot to me, not just because of the project itself, but because of the institution the team has become, that makes me it gave me the opportunity to experience experiences and meet people I would never have met in my life. This is the most important part of the team, giving space for people to develop, and as a result, the team ends up growing. For me the team is a family”.
